A former Cottonwood Shores mayor turned herself in on Friday after being indicted on theft charges in connection with items taken from the community library.
Janelle Long, 66, was booked in the Burnet County Jail on charges of theft of property between $1,500 and $20,000. Long was the predecessor of Mayor Donald Orr, who won the position in the November election, and she recently ran for council Place 3, but lost to incumbent Cheri Trinidad who garnered 73 percent of votes.
Cottonwood Shores Police Chief Harold Piatt said that when the warrants were issued, he contacted Long’s lawyer to give her the opportunity to turn herself in. Piatt said that the charges originated from the same incident in November 2013 for which former City Administrator Janet Taylor-Carusi was arrested in late April.
