A Granite Shoals couple is seeking help for a newborn who has spent two months in a hospital.

Two-month-old Isabel Macias was born on May 5 in Baylor Scott & White Temple Hospital, more a month earlier than her expected due date on June 11.

During a sonogram prior to her birth, parents Megan Hill and Johnny Macias were given some difficult news.

Gastroschesis, a defect in the abdominal wall which leads to the intestines traveling outside the body, left Isabel, called Izzy by family, in need of two surgeries before she was two weeks old.

Izzy’s family has organized a benefit on July 12 to raise money for expenses that Hill and Macias have incurred from traveling back and forth to the hospital, where their daughter has remained since her birth.

The benefit will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Johnson Park.

“The plates are by donation,” said Hill. “There’s going to be a brisket, barbecue, sausage, and music.”

Tunes will be provided by Back Road Jams, a DJ service.
