Marble Falls parks get LCRA tree aid

September 21, 2012, 4:15 pm by Adam Troxtell

After learning about the effects of the drought on trees in Marble Falls city parks, the LCRA has agreed to donate 50 trees to the city as replacements.

Hundreds of trees have died from the drought that has been sapping them dry since October 2010. Through a grant program, the LCRA has decided to donate saplings to keep city parks covered, and more will come next year.

"Mayor [George Russell] found out about the grant on a trip to Austin,” City Manager Ralph Hendricks said. "They will give us an additional amount next year. It’s usually done on a cycle, but once the LCRA knew about our issues, they moved us up to try and help us out.”

Each tree will be about four feet tall once planted. They are expected to be delivered in early October.
