G'Shoals Manzano Day to light up the sky Sunday night

September 26, 2012, 1:00 pm by Glynis Crawford Smith

Sunday night fireworks will light the sky above the Granite Shoals Municipal Complex and Quarry Park following the groundbreaking for the new Leo Manzano Hike, Bike and Run Trail, the conclusion of the final hometown celebration honoring Olympic runner Leonel Manzano and his family.

"We'll have some chairs but most people will want to bring their own seating for the event here," said Mayor Dennis Maier at Tuesday night's Granite Shoals City Council meeting. Leo and his family will arrive by motorcade after the events at Marble Falls High School and, after breaking ground for the trail and presentations, our Granite Shoals City Hall will be open for tours.

"Refreshments will be available by the fireworks and we'll have music by two noted musicians, Joel Guzman and Sara Fox. The fireworks will begin after sundown, about 7:45."

"Parking will be available within a short walk of the festivities and we hope Burnet County will come and share Granite Shoals' Leo Manzano Day and show how proud we all are of Leo and his family," said City Manager Judy Miller."

Council action centered on contracts for first responder services for Highland Haven and the new Burnet County Emergency Service District No. 3, the new city utilities ordinance and the proposal to apply for a $275,000 Community Development Block Grant to replace the failing Kingswood water tank on the east side of town.
