Hope clinic opposes annexationSeptember 28, 2012, 5:10 pm by Adam Troxtell Hope Animal Clinic has voiced a strong objection to Marble Falls’s intention to annex land along US 281 south of the city, and is asking the city to abandon its plans before Tuesday’s public hearing on the issue. In a letter sent to the city, attorney Will Moursund explains that Dr. Tim Thompson of Hope Animal Clinic did not receive notice of annexation and had to be told by surrounding property owners, despite the city approving an ordinance in August. Letters were supposed to be sent to a landowners in the area explaining the potential option to opt out of annexation if their land was agriculturally zoned. "First, I must share with you some of my client’s sentiments, that he strongly objects to the sneaky manner that you are conducting this attempted annexation, and that he only found out about your intentions from neighboring property owners who had been sent a letter from the city in August of 2012,” Moursund said in the letter. He goes on to write that other property owners share the same opposition to "forced annexation” and want the city to abandon their plans or put the matter up for special election. Hope Animal Clinic, located at 4015 US 281 South, is part of 1,141.55 acres of land the city intends to annex. Council has only approved an ordinance that announces their intent to annex and must vote again to annex the property. The first of two public hearings will be held in the Oct. 2 council meeting starting at 6 p.m. at city hall.
