October 06, 2012, 12:20 am by Mark Goodson

Faith Academy’s Trey Cherry and Brian Freeman scored three touchdowns apiece and the Flames had two goalline stands from its defense in the fourth quarter to beat San Antonio St. Gerards 50-21 Friday night in San Antonio.

Cherry scored on runs of 18, seven and 25 yards and Freeman scored from five, 25 and 69. The last one by Freeman gave the Flames a 50-21 lead in the fourth quarter.

The team’s defensive front seven played solid all night, especially on the goal-line stands, said coach Russell Roberts.

Jake Diamond had a strip and fumble recovery and Zack Hayden intercepted a pass on defense.

Diamond also scored on a 35-yard run for the Flames, who are 5-0 with the district  opener next week against Holy Trinity. The district opener will be in Marble Falls.

Faith Academy built a 28-6 lead with just three minutes left in the second quarter to take control.

St Gerards had a couple of answers to cut the margin to 35-21 midway through the third quarter.
