Meadowlakes to tackle texting at the wheel

October 09, 2012, 6:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

The City of Meadowlakes could move to crack down on texting while driving after council members and the mayor expressed their desire to do so.

Mayor Don Williams was open to any potential city ordinance on the issue after hearing a resident’s account of how he witnessed a golfer almost get hit by a car while crossing the road. The driver of the vehicle was texting at the wheel. Council member Franzella Jones also said she would like to see an ordinance in place.

"We can make an ordinance against texting while driving, and there may be some national or state programs we may get involved in,” Williams said.

Williams is concerned about residents of Meadowlakes who walk on the streets for exercise, because there are few sidewalks in the city.

I agree with that. Ban the use of mobile phones completely when folks are driving.

Sounds like normal politician. According to his statement "Williams is concerned about residents of Meadowlakes who walk on the streets for exercise, because there are few sidewalks in the city." the problem is few sidwalks in the city. So, instead of pushing for more sidwalks to make it safer, he wants to act like the city is doing something and get his hands on federal and state taxpayer program money. Must be taking notes from Marble Falls city staff.
