Leander edges team tennis squad

The Marble Falls varsity team tennis squad dropped a close match to Leander on Thursday to knock the team out of the District 25-4A competition for the fall.

Leander won, 10-7, dominating in the singles portion of the tournament round.

Sophomore Madison Dyer turned in a solid effort in her match, going to tiebreakers in all three sets of her match before losing, 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (6-8).

Junior Hannah Dockery earned the lone win in singles for the Mustangs with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win.

In boys doubles, the Marble Falls No. 1 team of Mike Stripling/Michael Holder lost, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.

Gaining wins for the Mustangs in doubles were Jared Edwards/Lima Baskin, 6-7 (7-9) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2; and Daniel Baxter/Jason Rogers, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3  

In girls doubles, the team picked up three wins from Madison Dyer and Kelsey McCasland 6-3, 6-3;  Mattie Cryer and Hannah Dockery 6-3, 6-4;  and McKenize Harrison/Parten, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

In mixed doubles, McCannon and McCrocklin lost 0-6, 0-6.

In boys singles, Stripling lost 3-6, 4-6; Holder lost, 5-7, 6-2, 5-7, Baskin lost, 1-6, 1-6, and Rogers fell, 3-6, 0-6.

Freshman Edwards picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win.

In other girls singles, Mattie Cryer lost 4-6, 5-7; Kelsey McCasland lost 1-6,3-6; and A.C. McCannon lost 1-6, 4-6.
