City ‘unaware’ of Roper annexation agreementOctober 29, 2012, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
Despite his most stern objections, City of Marble Falls officials have no recollection or record of any agreement with Russ Roper to not annex his family’s land in return for an easement. Roper stated at the Oct. 16 council meeting that in return for granting the city an easement in 2009 for a water line that extends out to the Scott & White medical center complex being built at US 281 and TX 71, he was promised his family’s land – which belongs to him and his three siblings – would not be annexed into Marble Falls until after it was developed. The Roper land is a major part of a 1,000-plus acre tract to the south of the city that was targeted for annexation back in August. Officials say they want to have zoning control over the development that is expected to happen along the southern US 281 corridor when the Scott & White medical facility is completed in Spring 2014. For more of this story, see Tuesday's Highlander.Reader CommentsIf I was Rusty Roper, I would tell the city of Marble Falls, sorry, we have changed our minds also. Spend more money and take the water line the long way around to the hospital and stay off the Roper Ranch. Rule Number One: Always get it in writing. That can nip problems in the bud before they even get started. Sounds like the city staff are still up to their same old tricks. Hope everyone is aware of their tricks. You would think that after all that H.T. & Ona Lou roper did for Marble Falls and the community that the city would not be trying to take in land tax revenue from land that is undeveloped. Especially after the Roper family children gave easement right a way for water & sewer lines in order for the hospital to be built. What a disgrace to a family that has given so much to Marble Falls!!!! |
