By Mark Goodson Highlander Sports Editor JOHNSON CITY -- Faith Academy, the No. 1 team in the TAPPS small school private teams poll, will play for the Johnson City Tournament championship Saturday at 1 p.m. The Flames beat Class 3A Canyon Lake, 44-28, on Friday to improve to 11-1 on the season. Bailey Brinkley scored nine points with most of her points coming off breakaway layups and sophomore shooting guard Taylor Denton sank 15 points, drilling shots form outside to lead the effort. "We got out of here with a win,’’ said Faith Academy coach Jerry English. "It wasn’t pretty.’’ Faith Academy led 10-8 after one quarter and were ahead 21-17 at halftime. Faith Academy played solid defense in the second half and pulled away for their 11th win. Faith Academy’s Juliette Fisher had six points and helped spark a run in the second half with a pair of strong moves inside. Kristen Cherry scored eight. Faith Academy beat Blanco in the opener of the tournament.’ |
