Paving begins on 281 bridge
Construction workers begin paving the new US 281 bridge across Lake Marble Falls, which is scheduled to open to traffic around Dec. 21.

Crews began paving the new US 281 bridge today, and it is scheduled to open to northbound traffic in a few weeks.

Construction workers with contractors Archer-Western are working to have the bridge open before Christmas, and it should be open around Dec. 21, according to Jason Cavness, project supervisor for the Texas Department of Transportation. The new bridge will be open to two lanes of northbound traffic first, with two lanes of southbound traffic continuing on the old bridge.

In February, all four lanes will be switched to the new bridge as workers begin demolishing and rebuilding a new southbound bridge. The entire project is expected to be complete by Fall of 2014.
