Blaze destroys Lake Travis vacation home
Firefighters from Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department and North Lake Travis Fire & Rescue were called out to a house on CR 345 between Smithwick and Lago Vista that was completely engulfed and destroyed by flames Monday morning. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

A vacation home near the Burnet-Travis County border was completely destroyed by a Monday morning fire.

Firefighters arrived at the home at 2800 CR 345 about 11:20 a.m. to find it engulfed in flames and its metal roof was partly caved in, Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Phillips said. The house is approximately halfway between Smithwick and Lago Vista surrounded by trees and brush. Phillips said first responders were fortunate it did not spread.

"Today’s fire danger is really high, with the winds and the dryness of the area,” Phillips said. "The grass around the home is burned, but it stayed near to the house.”

There was no one inside when the fire occurred. The owners, who reside in Wichita Falls, Kan., have been notified, Phillips said.

The call about the fire came from a resident across Lake Travis who saw the smoke and told the dispatcher they could see the house was engulfed in flames. Marble Falls AVFD was assisted by North Lake Travis Fire & Rescue. Bertram Volunteer Fire Department also responded to help supply water to the engines as needed. Burnet and Travis County Sheriffs were on scene, as well as Marble Falls Area EMS, who helped firefighters locate the blaze.
