New MF business out to save world

January 02, 2013, 3:20 pm by Adam Troxtell

A brand new brewery with an earth-sized mission is set to begin operating in Marble Falls after the Economic Development Corporation unanimously approved the sale of land in its business and technology park.

Save the World Brewing Co.’s purchase of Lot 1, Block A – the first on the right after entering Resource Parkway at the north of town – for about $28,000 means the company can now find a contractor and have the operation running before the end of the year.

"They hope to complete the structure by the summer, then perfect and brew their beer by the end of 2013,” Christian Fletcher, executive director of the EDC, said. "That’s also when they would start distributing.”

Fletcher said the price was slightly higher than the minimum accepted for that property. Save the World’s business model includes using the money raised from beer sales to benefit charity.

"The net proceeds go to charities,” EDC board member Jane Marie Hurst said. "So, they’ll give themselves salaries and all of the rest goes to charities that are pretty recognizable.”

In contrast to fellow local micro-brewery Double Horn Brewing Company, Save the World’s Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission’s license does not allow it to sell beer on-site; rather, they will sell the finished product to retailers that can then distribute it. This means the two will not be in direct competition with each other, which is something the EDC tries to keep in mind.

"We try not to bring in businesses that compete with what we already have established here,” board president John Packer said.
