Council passes S&W incentives deal

January 03, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

The incentives agreement between Scott & White Healthcare and the Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation has been given the final green light after city council approved the deal that will see $2.5 million given to the healthcare corporation for their investment in the local hospital.

The Wayne and Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center is scheduled to be complete in 2014, and a clinic at the site near the intersection of TX 71 and US 281 is set to begin operating in June. It is estimated the project, including construction, architecture, engineering and physician recruitment, will cost $150 million.

Council had to approve the agreement and a budget amendment allowing EDC to use $347,510 as a new line item in the 2012-13 budget for the reimbursement. The item will be included in varying amounts on future budgets.

"You probably passed the two items that will have the most far reaching impact for years to come,” Mayor George Russell said after the unanimous votes.
