Burnet County lifts burn banJanuary 08, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
With welcomed rain in sight, Burnet County Commissioners decided Tuesday to lift the burn ban in unincorporated areas of the county to start off 2013 Environmental Services Director Herb Darling made the recommendation during their regular session Tuesday in hopes the predicted rain in the forecast continues. "I’m a little reluctant to lift it on the promise of rain, but the forecast shows it’s a pretty sure thing with another chance for rain this weekend,” Darling told the commissioners. Precinct 1 Commissioner Bill Neve, who presided over of the meeting, read from a resolution that stated the drought experienced in Burnet County during the last two years was one of the most devastating since 1957. All four precinct commissioners voted to lift the burn ban while agreeing to keep a close eye on the situation. "We can reinstate it pretty quick if we need to,” Commissioner Russell Graeter said.
