Track team heads to Lampasas

Cody Schulz senior track season is off to an amazing start.

Schulz has medaled in all nine events he has competed in through two weeks, including five gold medals last week in helping the Marble Falls Mustangs to a team title in the Fredericksburg Billie Relays Saturday.

The Mustangs won Saturday’s meet in dramatic fashion, taking the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:35.14 to beat host Fredericksburg by less than a second to give the team a two-point victory in team totals over the Billies.

Marble Falls won, 129-127.

The 4x400 included Cody Seelig, Aidin Parnell, Schulz and Cody Skipper.

Schulz opened the running events by anchoring the team of Keith Jerome, Parnell, Seelig and Schulz to a 43.78, nipping Fredericksburg’s 44.03.

He also ran a 22.02 in the 200 meters to win for the second straight week in that showcase event.

In the field events, he had victories in the long jump 21-00 ¾  and triple jump 42-10 ¾.

Teammates Parnell and Gray took fifth and sixth in the triple jump for key points.

Both leaped over 39 feet.

Rey Baltazar continued his dominance in the weight events with throws of 55-2 in the shot and 147-4 in the discus.

The 4x200 relay of Stephen Petrosky, Seelig Jerome and Parnell took fourth in 1:35.44.

Distance runner Jordan Wright was second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, The junior ran times of 4:45.60 and 10:20.61, respectively.

Skipper was third in the 400 meters with a time of 54.19 and fifth in the 800 meters in 2:08.01.

Jerome was third in the 100 meters with an 11.53 clocking. Petrosky was eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.44.

The girls team was third with 107 points behind Fredericksburg’s winning 160 points and Burnet’s 130 points.

Natalie Schulz, a freshman and younger sister of Cody, won the 100 meters and was part of winning relays in the 4x100 and 4x400. Schulz was third in the long jump (15-2) and triple jumps (34.03).

Schulz ran a 12.80 to win the 100 meters.

The 4x100 team of Schulz, Sarah Lewis, Shelby Jordan and Chase Martin ran a 51.42.

The 4x400 team was Lewis, Schulz, Sarah Stripling and Martin. They ran a 4:08.85.

Stripling took second in the 800 meters with a 2:29.78 and fourth in the 400 meter at 1:04.54.

Sophomore Lewis won the 300-meter hurdles in 47.67.

Martin took second in the 200 meters in 26.94.

Distance runner Tess Johnson was fifth in the 1,600 meters in 5:49.21

In field events, Lewis was sixth in the high jump at 4-6 while Tiffany White as fifth in the pole vault at 8-6.

Teagan Hall and Reann Hall scored points in the shot and discus. Hall was fourth in the discus (95-0) ahead of Reann Hall’s sixth place 89-8.

Ribera reversed the order in the shot with fourth at 33-6 and Hall in sixth at 31-4.

Marble Falls track team will be at he Lampasas meet Friday. The field events and 3,200 meters start at 3 p.m. Running events start at 6 p.m.

The following week, Marble Falls will be off for spring break.
