Burnet man gets transplant
Fundraising events in Blue Lake and Burnet raised over $7,000 for J.R. Box, who recently had a heart transplant. He is pictured here with wife Brooke and daughter Ashlyn Box, 6.

A successful golf tournament benefit on Saturday was trumped only by the victory of a hope fulfilled.

Brooke Box, a flight nurse for Air Evac Lifeteam 49 who resides in Burnet, had the pleasure of telling friends and family that her husband J.R. finally had received his heart transplant.

"We’re so relieved that it happened,” said Box. "So many people die waiting for transplants.”

Box said that her husband is recovering well in Seton Medical Center in Austin. He was moved from the intensive care unit on Sunday and anticipates release on Friday. J.R. Box was released from surgery at 7:30 p.m. last Tuesday evening, just 12 hours before he was scheduled to receive a VAD pump implant, which would be a temporary heart replacement.

Please make sure you are a donor, no need to take everything with you when you die. It really helps people like this man. Yes, I am a donor and have been for a very long time.
