If you have a question for the mayoral or city council candidates in the May 11 Marble Falls municipal election, please place a comment with this story and we will compile those questions and add them to those we are considering asking the candidates for the April 23 forum from 6-7:30 p.m. at the MFISD auditorium.
Here’s a review of the candidates:
For Marble Falls Mayor: Incumbent George Russell and John Davis.
For City Council (3 seats open): Incumbent Mayor Pro-Tem Jane Marie Hurst, incumbent Ryan Nash, George "Butch” Kemper, and Russell Buster.
2nd question; After the involuntary annexation of the lake Marble falls subdivision in 2008 that lead to the annexing of the Flatrock Springs proposed development there has been little or No progress with that group in building or development.. As a potential council member how will you force that development to get started with what they promised to do?? After all they where part of the reason why the city annexed the LMF in the first place.

My question for these incumbents and new candidates is this;. In 2008 marbles annexed (and Involuntarily ) the Lake marble Falls Subdivision in order for them to annex the proposed development Known as Flatrock Springs. The city was supposed to provide full services to the LMF subdivision with in 4 1/2 years yet has failed to do so. Seeing as the city is in Violation of state law would you be willing to Deannex that subdivision and refund all money taken from those residents for NON service??. Or will you continue to be in violation of not only state law but the oath you took up the taking of your office to abide by all state and federal laws?

Thank you, Highlander, for the sponsoring this event for the Marble Falls election. Where does each candidate stand on: 1. The $36 million dollar complex? 2. Using EDC funds to sponsor the chamber of commerce? 3. Requiring full accountability of the EDC on all spending? 4. The city of Marble Falls controlling citizen private property use? 5. The fast growing cost of the EMS system? 6. The idea of moving the city swimming pool? 7. The importance of city street repairs?

1. Have any of the candidates lost property due to a foreclosure? 2. Have any of the candidates filed for bankruptcy ? 3. Are any of the candidates behind in property taxes? I ask these three questions because a good leader needs to be responsible with the tax payers money.

What ever happened to the idea of have a tourist-type train that travels from Fairland to Marble Falls and back? There were several ideas that were floating around a year or so ago about ways to attract visitors to town. What ideas do you have?

Question #3. When is the city going to annex the Los Escondidos area into the city since they have a very large tax base via very expensive water front properties and the city already Owns the water system?

I am wondering when people who don't like the idea of any restrictions on how they use their property and whether the way they keep it may lower the value of their neighbor's property don't just move to an unincorporated area like Kingsland.
In the meantime, do you support efforts to improve the appearance of Marble Falls? Or do you think we should just unincorporate and let everyone do anything they want to with their property?

1. What will you do to maintain the strong economic climate of Marble Falls?
2. In your two-year term, what is the single most important thing you hope to accomplish?

I appreciate the rights of property owners, but empty retail property harms all the businesses around it. Downtown, some space is appraently empty because landlords have raised rents during tough economic times rather than holding them or making them lower. Other space has been left empty for long periods by bank foreclosure. Can anything be done to create incentives or disincentives for owners to allow unoccupied storefronts to go unrented or unsold for long periords -- particularly on Main Street, where the idea of a special tax district has been proposed.

Since annexing the lakefront property on Hwy 2147 towards Horseshoe Bay no city services have been provided. What is your position on annexing property and having landowners pay city taxes etc. and recieve no services or benefits.
