Contract dispute halts fire service in Cottonwood Shores
October 09, 2013, 11:45 am by Alexandria Randolph
The Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors voted to temporarily cease fire response within Cottonwood Shores city limits due to lack of contract with the city.
After receiving a signed emergency services contract from city council, the board voted Tuesday night to not sign the contract, and instead send an interim contract to the city until the two parties could reach an agreement on a permanent contract.
Until then, said Janet Taylor-Carusi, the department will not be responding to city fire calls.
"The board of directors voted to not respond to fire calls
in the incorporated city limits until such a time as an interim contract or
permanent contract can be approved,” she said.
Taylor-Carusi said that the
department was advised not to respond without a contract due to legal issues.
