Meteor shower to light up sky

Highland Lakes residents are in for a natural light show in the black Texas night sky when the annual Orionid meteor shower falls over Earth this weekend.
Starting midnight Oct. 20 and before dawn the next day, Orionid meteors – bits of debris left behind by Halley’s Comet – can be seen falling at a maximum rate of 25 meteors per hour. The first-quarter moon sets at midnight, so its light will not interfere with the visibility of the meteor shower. For the best view, get away from city lights and lie on a blanket or in a reclining chair to see the entire night sky.
