Flame takes first at Sculpture on Main
From left to right, Rita Owens, Kim Levine and Rhnee Samudio admire George Sabra’s The Flame Sculpture, which took first prize at this year’s Sculpture on Main. Sabra created the piece from discarded pieces of granite marble counter tops.

Now towering over Main Street next to the City’s Development Services building, The Flame Sculpture was the toast of this weekend’s Sculpture on Main event in Marble Falls, catching the eyes of many and the first-place prize.

Austin artist George Sabra’s 13-foot-tall, 10,000 pound piece was the center of attention during the Saturday evening Sip N’ Stroll that celebrates the community’s appreciation of art. The night before at the awards dinner, Sabra took the first-place honor at Saucy’s Catering and Restaurant in Cottonwood Shores. Sculptor Joe Barrington took second with Texas Flora, which is on the corner of Third and Main, and third place went to Salt Grass Bird by Ben Hoyt.

Over 20 sculptures were placed in various locations downtown and will stand there for a year, giving the Marble Falls Main Street a new look.
