Bridge opens to northbound traffic
Cheyenne Braillif was the first person to cross the new US 281 bridge that spans Lake Marble Falls Thursday night in her Ford Fiesta.

The new US 281 bridge opened to traffic Thursday night after more than a year's worth of construction work.

Two lanes of northbound traffic began on the new bridge, while two lanes of southbound continued on the old one. It will remain this way until February as construction crews with Archer-Western Contractors Ltd. do some finishing touches in the middle lanes of both bridges.

Marble Falls resident Cheyenne Braillif was the first to cross the new bridge in her Ford Fiesta when it opened to traffic just before midnight Thursday.

"It makes me a little nervous actually,” Braillif said before she crossed. She said she wasn't used to being the first in many things, "especially driving across a new bridge.”

Hey, would it be too much to ask Archer-Western or the City of MF to just sweep off the gravel and rocks? Sheesh, have a little respect for paint jobs and windshields.
