Second winner in Reader’s Choice

Cottonwood Shores resident Sandy Deeds is the second winner of The Highlander’s Reader’s Choice Award weekly drawing. Her prize was $50.

"My husband put it (the ballot) in my name, but he asked me the questions and we filled it out together,” Deeds said.

Deeds and her husband Ronnie retired to Cottonwood Shores in 2010 from Midland, where Deeds held a job as a teller for Midland Teachers Credit Union and her husband worked for the U.S. Postal Service. They have a daughter living in Midland and a son in Arlington, Texas.

"My husband retired in 2009. We decided to live near trees and water,” she said. "Midland is pretty flat, so we were looking for a change in scenery.”

This is the first time Deeds and her husband have submitted a Reader’s Choice Awards ballot, but they are regular readers of The Highlander.

"My husband buys it on a regular basis. We get a lot of community news that way,” she said.

Deeds said that the paper has helped the couple’s transition to the Highland Lakes area, and they filled out the ballot to support their community members.

"We’ve run into a lot of nice people in the short time we’ve lived here,” she said. "Everyone’s really friendly, so we wanted to fill it (the Reader’s Choice Awards ballot) out.”

You don't have to enter the contest - or provide your name and contact information - to vote in the annual fun contest to recognize exceptional businesses and individuals in the community. Just return the ballot on Page 16-A of today's paper to the Highlander at 304 Gateway Loop, or mail it to P.O. Box 1000, Marble Falls, Tx. 78654 by Jan. 7, 2013 at 5 p.m. To be eligible for next week’s final cash prize, complete the entry box so we can contact you if you're a winner!
