Vetrides working to save programJanuary 02, 2013, 9:00 pm by James Walker Supporters of Burnet County’s Vetrides programs are busy trying to save it to help local veterans get to medical and other appointments. The program’s backers are collecting testimonials from veterans who have been helped by the program as they go about attempting to raise money to keep it operating after the Texas Veterans Commission recently declined to fund it for a third year. The latest testimonial is from Therese Simmons of Sunrise Beach, who wrote: "I would like to take the time to thank Vetrides for saving my life! "This year, I was informed by the Temple VA Hospital that my breast cancer had come back in my right femur. "I am thankful for Vetrides, because even though the VA is taking care of me, I would never been able to get there without the help of Vetrides." For more on this story, see Thursday's Burnet Bulletin.
