Philippians comes alive!

Leander resident Philip Smith will soon make a film of his live, dramatic presentation of the book of Philippians in Longhorn Cavern State Park.

Smith has presented his recitation across the country, and will present at the Highland Lakes Baptist Church in Kingsland on Jan. 27 and Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church in Buchanan Dam on Feb. 10.

Presented by Smith, "The Philippians” is a dramatic presentation intended to give the audience a personal encounter with the Bible’s Apostle Paul. Smith portrays Paul while he is incarcerated in a Roman prison, during which time he wrote to his dear friends and fellow Christians in Philippi.

"I started doing this five years ago. I used to work in theater, but I stopped for various reasons,” Smith said.

Smith has a degree in Theater Arts, and worked in theater for about 20 years before leaving to pursue a greater connection with his faith. Five years ago he felt called in faith to memorize the book of Philippians. It took him four months to memorize the four chapters.

"Everything just came together. I’ve done 80 live presentations of Philippians in Washington, Colorado, Virginia- but mostly in central Texas," Smith said.
