Driver arrested for DWI following four-car accident

January 21, 2013, 9:30 pm by Alexandria Randolph

An Austin man was arrested Friday on DWI charges after allegedly causing an accident involving four vehicles and seven persons on TX 71.

William Deardorf, 44, of Austin was arrested following an accident that sent four individuals to area hospitals. At about 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, Travis and Burnet County Sheriff Deputies responded to calls regarding a reckless driver near the Burnet and Blanco County line between Spicewood and Paleface Ranch Road. According to DPS, the deputies happened upon the accident only a short time after it occurred while they were searching for the reckless driver.

DPS said that Deardorf, driving a maroon 2006 Dodge Ram pickup, had failed to control his vehicle while coming up behind a 2011 gray Jeep SUV in the westbound lane. Deardorf clipped the Jeep on the side and lost control, swerving into the oncoming lane where he collided with a 2011 Kia Sorento and a 2007 Ford pickup, said DPS. Deardorf’s pickup then rolled down the embankment on the eastbound side, resting upside down.

Travis, Burnet and Blanco County Sheriffs Deputies, Johnson City Fire and EMS, Spicewood Volunteer Fire and EMS, Pedernales Fire, Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments and Texas DPS responded to the scene.
