Traffic stretches during afternoon bridge work

January 30, 2013, 5:45 pm by Adam Troxtell

Traffic on the US 281 bridge was significantly backed up Wednesday afternoon when crews began work on guardrails and the entrance to Blue Bonnet Cafe.

Repairs to a guardrail were being made on the south side of the bridge, requiring part of the right lane on the southbound side to be partially blocked off during one of the busiest times for traffic in Marble Falls. Drivers traveling north were also reduced to using only the left lane as construction began on the Blue Bonnet Cafe entrance. The work there, which also includes expanding the parking lot and installing new sidewalks on Second Street, is scheduled to be done by March.

Soon, all four lanes going across the bridge, both northbound and southbound, will be moved to the new bridge that was completed in December. This is so construction crews can begin tearing down and rebuilding the old bridge, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014.
