Last chance to walk across old bridge

This weekend is the last chance to take a walk across the old Lake Marble Falls bridge before the demolition process begins later this month.

From 6 p.m. on Monday, all traffic, both southbound and northbound lanes on US 281, will be shifted to the new bridge that was completed in December. Once traffic is moved and the old bridge is blocked off, the sidewalk will also be cut off to pedestrians.

The old bridge has been around since the 1930s. Any residents or groups who wish to take one last walk across the historic bridge will have to do that Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning or afternoon.

Frances McSpadden, secretary on the Falls on the Colorado Museum Board of Directors, said the museum will be opening up an exhibit about river bridges in Marble Falls. She said the board is encouraging people to come forward with memories or photographs of the bridge, such as people waving flags in a procession.

She also said people could take photos of crossing the bridge one last time this weekend and post it on the Falls on the Colorado Facebook page.
