K’land man hospitalized after collision

February 18, 2013, 9:15 pm by Alexandria Randolph

One man was hospitalized and several may receive citations following an accident on at 3:38 p.m., Monday on RR 1431 caused by a stalled vehicle.

According to Granite Shoals Police, Leobardo Contreras of Kingsland, was driving a green Ford pickup, and reportedly swerved off the road into the grass as he rounded a corner on westbound RR 1431 between Honeymoon Ranch Rd. and Wirtz Dam Rd, to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle sitting in the right hand lane.

Gary Boleyn of Granite Shoals, driving a 1992 white Chevy pickup, was directly behind Contreras and also swerved into the grass to avoid hitting the stopped vehicle. Police then said that Boleyn rear-ended Contreras’ truck as they slid through the grass shoulder.

According to Police, the driver of the BMW, a Robert Mabry of Granite Shoals, had stopped in attempt to change a flat tire.

Contreras was sent to Seton Highland Lakes with minor injuries, said Granite Shoals Police.

"The speeds were too fast for the drivers to avoid it (the BMW),” said Granite Shoals Sergeant Russell Kneese. "Following too close may have been a contributing factor. There just wasn’t enough time for evasive action.”

Mabry’s vehicle was not part of the collision.

Police said that multiple citations might be issued to the drivers involved following an investigation.

Granite Shoals Police, Granite Shoals Fire Rescue, Burnet County Sheriffs Deputies and DPS Troopers responded to the scene.

Those kinds of wrecks should occur only in Travis county. Does that make sense?
