Hilderbran announces State Comptroller bid
August 20, 2013, 7:00 pm by Lance Reaves
State Rep. Harvey Hilderbran (R-Kerrville), whose 53rd District of the Texas House of Representatives includes Llano County, has officially announced that he is running as a Republican for state comptroller.
Hilderbran declared his intention to seek this office Tuesday morning at Union Church in Kerrville in front of friends, supporters and locally elected officials.
The announcement ends the speculation—following Susan Combs’
announcement in May that she would not seek re-election as State Comptroller—as
to whether Hilderbran would vie for this office in 2014.
"I will bring new ideas for how we can use the Comptroller's office to fight for better results," Hilderbran said. "The Comptroller's office is enormously important and I intend to use it to protect taxpayers, improve services, ensure fiscal responsibility and advance free enterprise."
The longtime state representative unveiled the first three points of his 10-point "Performance Pledge.”
These points include instituting a "rapid
response" customer service policy, ensuring that the state pays the same
interest rate as it charges hardworking Texans, and helping protect Texans from
IRS abuse, according to the press release.
