Marble Falls Mayor tentatively enters race

Marble Falls Mayor George Russell threw his proverbial hat in the ring for Burnet County Judge Monday, confirming his intention to seek the office being vacated next year by Donna Klaeger.
"Iíve made up my mindÖ I will be filing in the near future,Ē said Russell.
At a city council meeting earlier this month Russell announced he was considering entering the race and predicted he would have an answer by the next city council meeting on Sept. 17. Filing for county judge does not impact his position as mayor.
The deadline for candidates to file is Nov 9.
One June 2 Burnet County Judge Donna Klaeger announced she would not seek another term. Since her announcement, the prospective candidate pool has become crowded. But as of Monday, only two candidates have said they were seeking the post while another said he would not run for the office.
Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Calvin Boyd has been mentioned as a possible candidate in the race but has been unwilling to comment on his future plans until Monday when he said that he has decided against running for the county judge position.
"Iíve been considering it,Ē Boyd said. "But Iíve decided against it. Iím going to run for re-election as Justice of the Peace.Ē
State law mandates that if a county public officeholder becomes a candidate for another office he or she must resign their current position.
