Tax ratification could eliminate school budget deficit

August 20, 2012, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

School officials are accounting for a net deficit of just over $400,000 in the 2012-13 Marble Falls ISD budget ahead of a tax ratification election that could make up for that amount.

The draft budget was presented at the school board meeting Monday night, and it accounts for a $2.2 million decrease in revenues. Expenditures were slashed by $700,000 from last year, but Accounting Supervisor Lisa LeMon said that number could creep closer to 2011-12 numbers.

If voters approve the district's tax shift on Aug. 25, the increase in funds would eliminate most of that deficit while reducing taxes by a penny at the same time.
