Some wary of MF property ordinance changesAugust 09, 2012, 6:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
In the face of stricter property ordinances, Marble Falls City Council members are taking a microscope to amendments the city wants to enact that restrict storage of vehicles and tightens maintenance of front yards. The changes to various city ordinances – including property maintenance, traffic and motor vehicles, nuisance and special events – were presented to council and citizens in the first of two public hearings Tuesday night. Council members spent much of their regularly scheduled meeting picking apart the details of the amendments. "I am so opposed to [those amendments,]” Councilwoman Sharon Pittard said. "I encourage citizens to write their council members about these changes.” For the full story, see Friday's Highlander.Reader CommentsMF is an eyesore, full of rundown, poorly kept eyesores that need tearing down. What's holding back development isn't "regulations". How silly. Turn off the right-wing talk radio.
What's retarding development is that the town is a rundown eyesore. Sharon Pittard is the spokesperson for all that is dragging MF down and holding it back. I am glad to hear at least ONE of the city council elected officials are questioning the under handed way the city staff is trying to take over and control the citizen's of Marble Falls. Go Pittard To much city government is a bad thing to have. Over taxation is a bad thing to place on the people. Zoning rules have gotten out of control in MFs. There are vacant lots that could be built on but because of bad zoning or excessive regulations folks cant or wont build on them or are not allowed to build in some cases. Aw, GeezUs! Where and When will it all end?
If you want to live without some zoning and rules, move to Kingsland. No city government, no taxes, no zoning, no problem. Live any way you want. If the citizens don't get to the council meeting and voice their opinions, the city council is going to slide this thru and it will be a done deal. The proposed ordinances are ludicrous and everyone will be affected, even the rich folks who won't be able to park their boat at their house with their RV and jet ski's.
Speak up Marble Falls! Yanni. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And what you may consider poorly kept eyesores just maybe the only home an elderly couple has.Or what the disabled may be able to afford. And yes it is OVER regulation issues which is stopping or slowing down growth. Why do you think so many have built just on the edge of the city. Its not just to avoid city taxes. Its to avoid too much regulation. LOOKs are only a fraction of what makes a city liveable or growable. Excess and/or poorly written ordinances are a waste of time. And if you dont like council member Pittard. Then vote her out. But that aint likely to happen. |
