Burnet County taxes going up 6%

Burnet County Commissioners Tuesday adopted a Fiscal Year 2013 budget that was balanced with a six percent tax increase.

The budget appropriates $21,871,479 for operating, capital and debt service expenditures, a 6.7 percent increase over the FY 2012 expenditures of $20,494,341.

The commissioners said an extra pay period and increased cost of fuel, maintenance and employee insurance were the biggest reasons the budget grew.

" I think we’ve done a good job keeping our budgets down and keeping our personnel down,” County Judge Donna Klaeger said.

So, all budgets are cut by 10% and taxes are raised by 6%. Your county judge tells the papers county employees will get a 3% raise but fails to mention the 7% increase on insurance rates.

And they still want to build another office building to add more friends and family to the pay roll.

Small town no growth mentality acting like a big city. A small town does not justify the salaries Burnet pays its management and governmental staff. Little if any salary raise for rest of us so why should we burden the cost? Hurts the property owners since there is no industrialization to help with taxes.
