Relatives and friends of Burnet County’s elected officials, along with law enforcement personnel and a smattering of plain old political junkies overflowed the second-floor courtroom in the county courthouse Tuesday morning.

The occasion was the swearing in of candidates, who were elected to county positions in the Nov. 6 elections, plus an assortment of appointed board directors and sheriff’s deputies and personnel.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Bill Neve welcomed the group and urged the newly-elected officials to savor the moment.

"Take your time and enjoy it,” Neve said. "Take lots of pictures with your family and friends to mark the occasion and remember it well because it will never be this good again.

"You will never be this popular again.”

Neve and fellow commissioner Ronny Hibler of Precinct 3 were sworn in to start their fourth four-year term and Tax Assessor Collector Sheri Frazier was sworn in for a sixth term.

Sonny McAfee was sworn in as district attorney of the 33rdand 424th Judicial Districts and became Burnet County’s first new DA in 28 years. McAfee replaces Sam Oatman, who did no seek re-election.

For a complete list of those sworn in, see Thursday's Burnet Bulletin.
