Remote systems reduce utilities use

January 07, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell

In an effort to use water and electricity more efficiently, the Marble Falls Parks and Recreation Department has installed wireless systems that allow staff to control park irrigation and facility air conditioning online.

"We’ve started switching irrigation systems to remote management,” Director of Parks and Recreation Robert Moss said. "We’ve got 15 controllers across town, so it takes a guy about a day to go around to all of those. If there were ever a problem, someone would have to find it and go out to fix it. This way, someone can fix it quickly.”

Currently, two irrigation systems have the remote management technology installed: one at the Johnson Park baseball field and another at the soccer fields at 6th Street and Avenue K. It allows staff to monitor usage levels and control the flow of water in the event of a break or any other accident. Sensors on the irrigation systems will also prevent them from turning on if it is raining.
