Softball team closes with Dripping Springs

Marble Falls’ softball team gave up seven runs in the third inning and found itself in catch up mode the entire game Tuesday night against the Rouse Raiders at Marble Falls.
The Mustangs outhit Rouse, 10-8, but came up short on the scoreboard, 8-6.
The Lady Mustangs (20-10 overall and 5-6) are currently in fourth place, but are just a game ahead of Rouse for the final playoff spot.
Marble Falls closes its regular season with District 25-4A champion Dripping Springs Friday at Marble Falls. Game time is 7 p.m. for the Lady Mustangs, who can clinch the final playoff spot with a victory or a Rouse loss. Rouse plays Vandegrift in its final game and can force a playin game with the Mustangs with a win and a Marble Falls loss to Dripping Springs.
On Tuesday, Lady Mustangs starter Makenzie Carpenter ran into trouble in the third inning and Rouse was able to punch out some key hits en route to a 7-run inning.
Marble Falls had led 3-0 after the first inning.
The Lady Raiders took a 7-3 lead after three innings and Marble Falls tried to peck away at the lead. The closest the Lady Mustangs were able to pull was, 8-6.
Tyler Oppenheim had a 4-hit outing for the Lady Mustangs offense. Hailey Wooten had two hits.
Amanda Thomas came on to pitch in relief and allowed just one run.
"All of them are tough to lose,’’ Marble Falls coach Tino Salazar said. "They got a couple of hits going there and we kept fight back, it was just not enough.’’
Dripping Springs has clinched the district title with Leander holding down second and Cedar Park third place.
