Marble Falls’ cross country season begins Friday with the Mustangs taking part in the Concordia Invitational at Plfugerville.
The high school meet is hosted by Concordia University.
For Marble Falls it will mark the debut of two athletes expecting to make runs toward the state meet in November.
Senior Jordan Wright leads the boys team after advancing to state as a junior last year. Wright ran a personal best at regional last year with a 16:06 clocking over the 3.1 mile race. He was ninth and earned a spot at state, but had a disappointing showing at state and finished 53rd in grueling windy conditions.
Marble Falls coach Anthony Torns said Wright and senior Sarah Stripling are expected to set the tone early for the team.
Marble Falls boys team has 12 runners this season. Other seniors are Cody Skipper and Colten Hagood, both were among the top five for the team last year.
Juniors D’Anthony Wall and Tait Johnson are veterans along with Daniel Mata, a sophomore.
The girls team is led by Sarah Stripling, Haley Stephens, Chase Martin, Tess Johnson and Darby Hibbs.
