Marble Falls loses homecoming, 37-7

Vandegrift sophomore running back Christian Reyes rushed for 217 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Vipers to a 37-7 victory over Marble Falls Friday at Mustang Stadium.

Vandegrift’s defense set the tone holding Marble Falls to it lowest offensive output of the season on homecoming night for the Mustangs.

The Vipers (4-4, 2-2) held Marble Falls to 38 yards in the first half and 109 for the game.

Marble Falls (3-4, 0-3) let the game slip out of hand in the second quarter when the Vipers took advantage of good field position and its running game.

Vandegrift, which is in it third varsity football season, put together a 7-play, 49-yard march in the second quarter to start a run in the second quarter.

Reyes scored from 11 yards out to make it a 10-0 game.

A high snap from center on Marble Falls next possession gave the Vipers a first-and-goal situation at the six. The Vipers scored on third down when sophomore quarterback Jamie Hudson raced around the right side. Senior placekicker Grant Wilburn added the PAT for a 17-0 lead.

Marble Falls moved the ball on its next drive, but quarterback sacks by Kyle Gruber and Mason Hargreaves turned back the Mustangs, forcing a punt.

Vandegrift then drove 68 yards in 12 plays, eating up the final four minutes of the first half before Wilburn booted a 25-yard field goal for his second field goal of the game. The senior kicked field goals of 42, 25 and 40 for the game.

Marble Falls trailed 20-0 at halftime and was outgained 205 to 38 yards at intermission in the homecoming game.

The Vipers gobbled up yards and time on the clock in the third quarter before Wilburn added a 40-yard field goal to polish off a 10-play, 52-yard drive.

Marble Falls’ Keith Jerome scored Marble Falls only touchdown on a 25-yard burst off the right side of the Mustangs line with 2:05 left in the third quarter. Marble Falls drove 50 yards in four plays, including a 21-yard pass to Garrett Gray from Mike Richardson.

Richardson completed 19 of 26 passes for 120 yards. He threw one interception and for the first time this season was held without a touchdown pass in a game.

Vandegrift outgained Marble Falls, 424-109 in total yards for the game.
