Donald Langehennig Dec. 9, 1953 ~ Sept. 15, 2012September 12, 2012, 9:03 am by Staff Reports
Donald met and married the love of his life, Dawn Marie Bailey in 1992. They have been inseparable for 20 years, sharing in the joy, upbringing and education of their wonderful children, Lauren Elise Langehennig, 18, and Wyatt Dean Langehennig, 12. Donald spent his life on the family ranch located between Fredericksburg and Llano. Being a fifth generation Texan, both great grandparents emigrated from Germany and settled in the Gillespie and Llano county areas in 1845. His childhood was spent ranching, hunting and all things outdoors with his parents. He graduated from Llano High School and later attended Texas State University. He worked at the Llano County Appraisal District and the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Department. For the past 12 years he has been a full time rancher and had fulfilled his dream of rebuilding the family ranch. Donald would be considered by some to be a quiet man. But to those who were honored to know him well, he would also be described as a strong, caring man, with a great sense of humor and unbending values. Donald was the man you could call on in a crisis; he would know what to do and would stay calm. He was honest and upstanding, a man of great integrity and a man who loved his family immensely. Donald was adored by his children and loved deeply by his wife. As much as he enjoyed his life in Llano, he looked forward to visiting his mountain retreat in Montana, where, as an avid sportsman, he could indulge in his preferred pastime, hunting. He loved escaping up to the North Country and being surrounded by God’s beauty. Donald was widely known for his affinity with firearms and was considered an expert in this field by all who knew him, those seeking advice, and by his fellow experts in firearms. He was a generous man and took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge regarding ranching, hunting, and wildlife with his family and friends. Survivors other than his beloved wife and children include his mother, Nora Langehennig, mother and father-in-law, Laurie and Bob Glass, father-in-law, Bob Bailey, brother-in-law, Shawn Bailey and his wife Kristine, nephew, Christopher Bailey, and brother-in-law, Aran Bailey, and nephew, Brennhan Bailey. Donald was preceded in death by his father in 2003 and his dearest friend Wayne Dean in 2012. Services were Saturday, Sept. 22 at Beckmann Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, with internment to following at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cherry Spring. The family received visitors last Friday, in Beckmann Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial donations be made to American Heart Association. |
