Joe Bob Sherrod, 74, of Llano, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27. He was born on Sept. 28, 1937 to Mabel V. (Wilson) Sherrod and Oren Sherrod in Brown County, Texas. Sherrod married Jerrie Means on Jan. 11, 1958 in Brown County; he served in the National Guard from February 1956 until Februrary 1964, and later worked for the telephone company for 20 years.
He was a gunsmith by trade where he did repairs and made custom guns. He was also a great hunter and he loved the outdoors. He was a long-time member of the Llano County Clay Busters and participated in Cowboy Shoots, where he had many friends. Sherrod was also a member of the Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jerrie Sherrod of Llano; his son, Joe David Sherrod of Spicewood; daughter, Cathy Klafehn and husband Mark of Flower Mound, Texas; four grandchildren who all loved being outdoors with him: Josh Sherrod, Meagan Klafehn, Jordan Sherrod and Emma Klafehn; uncle, Ross Wilson of Stephenville, Texas; cousin, Sherrod Shaffer and wife Janice of El Dorado, Kan.; brother-in-law, Bill Means and wife Cynthia of Brookesmith, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Edgar and husband Duke of Early, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Waldrope Hatfield Hawthorne Funeral Home in Llano.
Graveside services were Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Jordan Springs Cemetery in Brown County with Sherrod Shaffer officiating.
