Earle E. Ford, 96, was born on Aug. 23, 1916 in Fairfield, Ill. and passed away on Oct. 9, in Longview, Texas.
In 1940, Ford signed up for the draft and was called to service into the Army Air Corps. He went through basic training in San Antonio and after completion, he was sent to Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, Kan. After the war started, he was sent to Amarillo Army Air Base where he attended radio school, where he became interested in the CB radio.
He spent his early career working for the International Union of Operating Engineers building pipelines all over the world. He also worked on projects building underground silos in North and South Dakota.
His last major international project was building a pipeline across the Sahara Desert. He later returned to the U.S. working construction in the Houston and Austin areas. Ford and wife, Virginia, then retired on their ranch in Spicewood.
He was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him; he lead a long and fruitful life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Virginia Ruth Rick Ford; mother Bertha Willis Shiflet; and brother Dorman Ford. He is survived by best friend Lambert Razzt; wife Margaret Evelyn; daughter Karen A. Ford Lewis and husband Dennis; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, nephew Larry Ford and his wife Karen; and grand-nephews Andy and wife Amy, and Robert and wife Melissa.
The graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Comfort Cemetery.
