James P. Douglas April 19, 1941 ~ Feb. 18, 2013February 08, 2013, 9:11 am by Staff Reports James Paul "Jimmy” Douglas departed this life on Feb. 18 to be with those who gone on before him and to wait for those who follow. He made the world a better place for 71 years. He was born April 19, 1941 in Burnet to James A. Douglas and Pauline Cheatham Douglas. During his life he had a number of varied interests. He lived in Burnet until the age of 16 when he moved to Pasadena. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1959. He attended San Jacinto College and Lee College for a brief time before joining the electrical apprenticeship program in 1960 to follow in his dad’s footsteps as an electrician It was at Lee College that he met the love of his life Sarah Jane Woods, whom he wed in December 1960. They had three wonderful children and lived a very blessed and amazing life together. The celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2010. Douglas was a member of the IBEW Local Union and worked as a journeyman electrician until 1973, during this time he also owned and operated Dugliano’s Pizza Parlor in Pasadena. He then took the position as an assistant Business Agent in the Local Union 716. He later worked for the Houston Organizing Project of the National AFLCIO, and upon retirement, he returned to his family home in Burnet. As a teenager, he had a passion for building hot rods and loved tinkering with many an engine. After marrying Sarah, he bought a Volkswagen Bus and took the center door out to shorten it. He and his friend David then took the engine out seven different times in one year just to make it better. He was a wonderful artist and drew several caricatures that were published in different magazines. He was the best father and later grandfather in the world. He loved to entertain all of the grandchildren with antique miniature cars that were used in parades and such. His pure joy could not be disguised as he watched the little ones laugh and squeal with delight at his antics. He is preceded in death by his father James A. and mother Pauline. Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife of over 53 years Sarah Douglas; son Jeff Douglas and wife Dana; daughter Dena Kolb and husband Robert "Bob” Kolb; son Michael Ray Douglas and wife Celeste; grandchildren James Jeffery Douglas Jr., Ben Douglas, Keeley Cline, Jacob Kolb, Conner Kolb, Taylor Douglas and Gavin Douglas; beloved cousin Phillip Cheatham; brother Tommy Douglas and wife Betty; sister Robbie Douglas Travis; special friend Stetson Everett, whom he regarded as a grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and by anyone who had the privilege of calling him "Friend.” Services were held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the First Baptist Church of Burnet with Pastor Doug Burton officiating.
