The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team crushed Uvalde 5-0 Jan. 19 in its final match before starting District 25-4A play.

“It was a great team win by the girls,” head coach Abigail Blunt said. “It was one of the most complete games we have put on the pitch. I believe the win is going to help propel us into district play with confidence."

Goals were scored by Miley Bolanos, Cali Brydon, Haley France, Presley Kahl and Briseah Rivera. Ashley Ferreira, Dulce Macias and Bolanos were credited with assists.

Blunt noted the goals were the result of solid team chemistry all over the field.

“I think we connected in the midfield well and handled pressure on the backline,” she said. “We worked as a team offensively and defensively on and off the ball. We came out aggressive and stayed aggressive through the entire match.”

The coach noted that one of the best parts about celebrating a goal at Mustang Stadium is the light show. The installation of LED lights allows personnel to make the lights dance, do flashy patterns and other things the players enjoy.

Marble Falls High School Principal Patrick Hinson was the scoreboard and lights operator during the win against Uvalde.

“I’d like to give a special shout out to Mr.

Hinson, our awesome principal, for performing the light show during the game,” Blunt said.

“It gives the girls an extra edge after scoring a goal.”

The Lady Mustangs now turn their attention to a road trip at Lago Vista at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.

23, in the district opener.

Marble Falls finished the 2023 season as the district runner-up.

“District play is going to be big,” Blunt said.

“The girls worked hard in preseason, and they are ready for district.

It’s what we have been preparing for. I think we have the same challenges in district as we did before. Throughout district we need to compete at our level of play or higher, stay consistent from first half to second half, and continue to win 5050 balls.”
