Fall is a great time to plant a new tree or shrub, symbolizing new begin nings. A friend of ours has a wonderful family tradition where her grandmother would plant a new tree every time a grand child was born.
Before planting, make sure to take stock of your surroundings - look up and down. Consider power lines, overhangs from homes and garag- es, sidewalks, driveways, septic systems, and water lines. Different trees grow to varying heights, so choose wisely. For exam - ple, a Lacy Oak grows to be around 30-35 feet tall, while a Sugarberry tree can shoot up to 80 feet tall
and 3 feet in diameter.
