Burnet County commissioners approved and released a resolution Sept. 24 to announce they are against the grant of a permit for the construction of a rock and concrete crusher facility in Burnet at 3221 FM 3509.

Approval of the air quality standards permit application numbered 176835 is pending review by the Texas Commission on Water Quality.

The commissioners’ resolution declares “pollutants and particles emitted into the air” by the quarry would endanger the local environment and health of businesses, health, natural resources and groundwater, recreation and tourism.

“It (the resolution) is in concert with what the city has approved,” County Judge James Oakley said, referring to Burnet officials.

Burn Ban

After hearing County Emergency Management Coordinator Derek Marchio’s report “drier than normal conditions over the next two months,” the commissioners invoked a burn ban for the county.

In other business, commissioners:

• Approved the low bid of more than $571,000 by KC Engineering Inc. for the CR 114 paving project; and

•Approved to apply for a grant of $75,000 from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for the county VETRIDE transportation program to assist local veterans.
