Eligible Texans are encouraged to make a plan for voting.
According to this year’s election calendar, early voting opens Monday, Oct. 21; and Oct. 25 is the last day to apply for a ballot by mail.
Mail-In Eligibility Those eligible for a mail- in ballot are: Anyone 65 and older; disabled; or a registered voter who is not going to be present in their home county during early voting or on Election Day.
The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is Oct. 25. It has to be mailed back to the local elections office by Nov. 5.
The office can receive a mail-in ballon on Nov. 6 (day after election) as long as it is postmarked by Nov. 5.
ID Requirements
Seven forms of ID are: Texas driver’s license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS); Texas Election Identification Cer - tificate issued by DPS; Texas personal identification card issued by DPS; Texas license to carry a handgun issued by DPS; U.S. military identi- fication card containing the person’s photograph; U.S. cit- izenship certificate containing the person’s photograph; and U.S. passport.
Impediments to obtaining or updating identification include timing and delayed appointments for ID if they don’t have one.

Registered voters can check their status on the Texas Secretary of State’s website, https://www.sos.state. tx.us.
Other important dates to remember this election season include: Nov. 1, when Early voting ends; and Nov.
5: Election Day.
