Editor’s Note: Burnet County Judge James Oakley offered The Highlander the following timeline and circumstances surrounding the request for an independent forensic review into alleged payroll practices of the Burnet County Sheriff's Office.

In August of 2022, the auditor's office received some whistleblower complaints about payroll issues with the sheriff's office that money was being paid in the form of FTO (Field Training Officer) over time whenever the hours weren’t actually worked.

It was an incentive pay to go to those allegedly who would get extra pay if they performed this duty during their normal workday.
