On Sunday, Oct. 27, a runaway brush fire threat - ened a local museum ven - ue and neighboring ranch - es on FM 2147 East just outside Marble Falls in southern Burnet County.
"I had just driven a friend around the sculp - ture trail when we saw a huge plume of smoke," said Lorraine Benini of Museo Benini. "We sped toward it and saw flames racing throughout the dry field just northwest of our art museum. "We called for help and volunteer firefighters were on site within ten minutes."
Blustery conditions fu -
eled the fire.
"Fire was jump - ing fences and affecting ranches around us, but soon trucks from Spice - wood, Hoover Valley, and Cottonwood Shores joined Marble Falls and worked for hours to contain the fire," Benini said.
The cause of the wild - land fire was a suspected spark from a welding tool on a neighboring property.
"They put their fire out that spread through their field but apparently did not realize the fire had jumped fences, and the perimeter was highly active," she added. It is estimated the fire covered 15 acres, but no structures or animals were harmed, she continued. "So many thanks go to the firefighters from all of us here on 2147 East for their rapid and efficient fire control," she said. Crews patrolled and hosed hot spots into the evening to ensure the blaze was fully contained.
