The Highland Lakes Native Plant Society (HLNPS) will meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main Street. An educational presentation will follow a 30-minute chapter business meeting.
The speakers will be Rufus Stephens and Jan Wrede. They will give a presentation on their new book, “Land Stewardship for Birds: A Guide to Central Texas,” speaking about the importance of native plant communities for birds.
Nearly 50 years of data tells us that bird populations are declining at an alarming rate, but with thoughtful practices you can be an agent of change. What you do on your land can restore and enhance bird habitats to produce the cover, food, and water needed for thriving bird populations. Stewardship conservation is done by habitat so this book is organized by Central Texas’ primary habitats: woodlands and savannahs; grasslands; rivers and streams; canyons, springs, and seeps; constructed tanks, ponds, and lakes; plus, residential yards.
